Apple trees — full size, multiple grafts for sale at Isle of Sky Nursery

In addition to dwarf apple trees, Jaimee grafts full-sized apple trees with multiple apples creating big trees that make for center stage in a landscape. These big trees are not for “quick cropping.” They will not come into production for five to seven years and they require a lot of room.

Do consider these big apple trees for situations where a “center stage” specimen might be nice in your landscape.
I usually make them into “living history story” trees with several rare, old varieties grafted on.
Planted in a park or other public place, these trees are beautiful remembrances.

STANDARD/FULL SIZE Rootstock - 25' to 35' at maturity (depending upon graft variety)

  • Antonovka — This is the only rootstock Jaimee uses for full-size (standard size) apple trees. This extremely hardy, Russian rootstock is famous for its ability to withstand subzero winters. Add to that, good branching characteristics, no suckering, drought resistance and roots which spread wide and deep. Jaimee grows her own rootstocks with several branches, leaving one as the original Antonovka apple and grafting on other varieties. She does this because the Antonovka apple itself is a self-pollinating, large yellow apple with white flesh that is in itself good eating. In addition, it is a great pollinator for other apples grafted on to it, especially Triploids (varieties which do not pollinate themselves or others). This is also one of the few apples that produces itself “true” from seed.
